Jane Fonda with a face tattoo

Women (and one creepy dude) prancing around in tights with their synchronized steps, gyrations, and all before I was old enough to realize how bizarre it really is (realization dawned when I later became a trainer). That pales in comparison to what I see these days though, which is large groups of convicts doing their group exercises in some attempt at a show of force or military discipline, it brings me back to my childhood. At least the guys aren't wearing tights. Usually.

I don't know if it's my memories from those classes or maybe seeing too many musicals when I was younger, but when I see the synchronized steps and the elaborate hand and feet movements, I get less "Full Metal Jacket" and more "West Side Story". Seeing the knees, leg kicks (can can) and hip swings and frolics just makes me shake my head in wonder. I'm NOT making this up!. I won't lie and say they do jazz hands, and they don't usually snap, but in between they really do the "maniac" run in place thing from Flashdance and the call and response sound suspiciously like "sharks and jets". I think the Broadway recruiters are really missing out on this untapped font of talent!

I really hope none of these potential stars hear about my mockery. I'm not so much worried about gang violence as I am worried about... dance battles. These guys get DAILY practice! I wouldn't stand a chance
